Hill Climber Coffee

Hill Climber coffee is an experiment with a purpose.

His Eyes purchased property in Samepdrana Honduras (in the mountains above Comayagua) for the Church plant there a few years ago. The Church building and parsonage are both located there. In addition….there are quite a few coffee plants. This year we decided to see if instead of selling that coffee on the open market here for the Church to use, what if we started our own coffee brand? From the harvest there, plus additional coffee from a brother in the Church (both of which we paid over the regular market price) we had about 500 pounds of coffee. Not much on a big scale, but for us, it is was a bit of a gamble…after all, what do we know about coffee?

With help from the brothers there, and from God above all, the various steps were taken, getting rid of the fruit, drying out the beans, taking them to be roasted, bagging, and designing and printing the stickers for the bag, and in the end, we had what has turned out to be a downright nice product. Us not being a right fancy business or anything, we are selling the coffee locally in Honduras for $6 per pound bag. If you are in the US and want to get some…hit us up email, if the order is big enough, we might be able to work something out….that is if we do not sell out before you get around to letting us know!

We are already working on what we will be doing for next year and beyond. Additional property has already been purchased in Sampedrana (about two acres) for planting coffee, but it will be several years before that will start producing. We are also looking at if there is other property available…perhaps some that already has coffee on it. In the mean time, with us being able to offer the small local growers more for their coffee than they get otherwise, we could buy as much as we would need above what the Church property produces if needed. When that property is producing, the idea is that the future pastor there would be supported through the Church maintaining that crop, and as well having for other needs in the Church (such as vehicle maintenance, building repairs, etc.)

If all goes well, we are also looking to the possibilities of doing this in the future with San Juancito as well, another good coffee growing region. Right now the clothing ministry is helping the Church there to maintain their pastor, but this would be a long term endeavor. We are looking into the possibilities of getting property there, just putting out feelers for now.

If this little enterprise proves successful enough to provide for these opportunities mentioned above in the future, then we could look to see how proceeds from it could be used for other areas of the mission. For now, we would be looking to this as a fairly painless way of better ensuring long term financial independence for some of the Churches to avoid depending on outside funds.

So for now start brewing, smelling, and tasting that great java juice, secure in the knowledge that your efforts are far from in vain!
